  • Overview

    The Buyer/Planner is responsible for executing the procurement process in accordance with Company policies including (but not limited to) Inventory Management System (IMS), documentation, specifications, order placement and follow up, and delivery negotiations, supplier performance and inter-company communications.  Maintains purchase orders to reflect latest contracted costs and monitors/maintains inventory levels in accordance with production requirements.  Perform function of Procurement for assigned facility(s) and to support customer demand and inventory supermarket levels. Supports and backups the Strategic Sourcing Manager where necessary and as required. Functions as a leader. The Buyer/Planner leads the team in problem resolution acting as the first point of escalation in the Global Supply Chain (GSC). Proactively anticipates issues and problems in the GSC. The Buyer/Planner leads continuous improvement projects including but not limited to cost improvements, and risk identification/mitigation from conception to completion.


    • Welcomes and champions change throughout the GSC
    • In the spirit of continuous improvement, proactively identify opportunities for improvement and optimizes & executing on opportunities presented.
    • Provides leadership on supplier management by coordinating initiatives related to supplier quality standards, cost improvement projects and value improvement projects.
    • Owns projects from conception to completion, managing all aspects along the way
    • Trains and mentors Planner Buyers company-wide
    • Represents the GSC and Value Stream at various meetings
    • Visits supplier facilities and conducts supplier certification and audit programs
    • Develops and refines highly complex technical requests for proposals (RFPs) and specifications
    • Creates, maintains and reviews supplier performance reports to ensure conformance to supplier management goals
    • Facilitates, develops and documents
    • Supplier Quality Certification Program (from GSC perspective)
    • Supplier on time delivery program
    • Compiles and analyses data, in order to prepare summary reports for management for general information and detailed situational analysis.
    • Update and document all Global Supply Chain processes and activities.
    • Responsible for, and ensures all NDA’s for the department are up to date
    • Review finished goods supermarket levels and adjust as business needs necessitate.


    • Ability to interact with all levels of management
    • International sourcing experience required
    • International language skills are a plus
    • Working familiarity with APICS, courses and certification
    • Working knowledge of sourcing, supplier selection and performance (off-shore sourcing experience preferred)
    • Working familiarity with software based ERP systems such as MAPICS, BPCS, SAP, etc.
    • B.S. in Business or related discipline (8 years’ direct experience required in lieu of degree)
    • 8 - 10 years direct purchasing experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment
