We are looking for a Quality Control Musician to conduct tests to assure the clarinet and saxophone reeds produced by the company meet playability and dimensional standards.  This role will collaborate with Product Development and Operations to develop and produce reeds that meet the company’s sales objectives. While this will be a second shift position, the candidate will need to provide coverage for other shifts as necessary.  This is an on-site role and will require the candidate to work on-site in the Farmingdale, Long Island Headquarters office 5 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Play test and approve clarinet and saxophone reeds and mouthpieces.
  • Test, inspect and approve production batches of 3rd party woodwind accessories.
  • Use equipment’s computer screen interface to adjust dimensions of blanks and reeds to conform to the standard.
  • Measure and interpret vamp profile dimensions on clarinet and saxophone reeds.
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment problems when machines are malfunctioning or go out of acceptable adjustment standards.
  • Set up clippers for saxophone and clarinet reeds as needed for production and changeovers
  • Participate in changeover of equipment from one product to another.
  • Assist and advise Research and Development and Marketing, as required in relation to expert opinion of reeds and woodwind accessory products.
  • Identify quality problems on blanks, reeds, mouthpieces, and packaging and work with respective teams to provide solutions.
  • Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data for release.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and failure investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Participate in internal approvals, qualifications, assessments and audits as required.
  • Perform visual inspections of finished products.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between quality control and other departments, vendors, or contractors.

Qualifications

  • Must be proficient with at least seven (7) years’ experience playing a clarinet and saxophone.
  • Must be familiar with musical terms and musician's jargon relating to saxophone and clarinet, current musical trends, performers, and all musical styles.
  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.

 

The base pay range for this role would be commensurate with experience: $27 to $33 per hour
